While it does look like the spitting image of its predecessor and the upgrades aren’t that striking either, in the end the iPhone 4S will leave you pleasantly surprised and satiated. With less than 2 days left until the “best iPhone yet” goes on sale, not to mention the one million plus pre-orders of the unit IN A SINGLE DAY, we can imagine diehard fans camping outside their closest Apple AT&T, Verizon or Sprint stores, desperate to get their hands on the newest iPhone , and here’s why.

Apart from the looks, the iPhone 4S keeps the incredible 3.5inch Retina Display and those antennae around the sides that troubled so many users. But, as expected, the issue has been resolved, with the OS now programmed to intelligently switch between dual aerials to whichever is getting the strongest signal.

The 4S uses a dual-core A5 CPU, the same processor used in the iPad 2, which gives it twice the power (compared to iPhone 4) alongside a new dual-core GPU that delivers graphics up to 7 times faster. This means launching apps, browsing the web, gaming, etc will be a breeze .And because the A5 chip is so power-efficient it’s not hard on the battery either.

Apart from the processor, the camera and the OS also get upgraded. The phone comes with an 8 mega-pixel camera with a custom lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture. It is backed by a decent sensor, and of course the A5 processor, and can now capture even sharper shots as well as true HD 1080p videos. As stark an improvement as it may seem though, this is still only at par with the imaging capabilities of its rival smart phones such as the Galaxy S 2. The OS is upgraded to iOS 5 which brings 200+ new features to the device. The most notable and obvious is the new notifications style for texts, tweets and other events. Another useful addition is the ‘To do list’, which allows you to schedule events by time, date and even as you arrive or leave locations thanks to tracking your location.

The most impressive addition to the whole package however, is Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri. Now voice recognition isn’t a new concept, but according to Apple, “Siri not only understands what you say, it knows what you mean.” And Siri does appear to have taken things to a new level. It isn’t integrated into everything that the iPhone 4S does, but Siri does link up with some key features, making it a useful gizmo.

Like the other voice control software, Siri can accomplishing simple tasks such as entering text, checking the weather, setting reminders or perform web searches with ease. But what really sets it apart is that it understands what the user wants to say, even when he speaks like yoda. Also, Siri’s responses to some oddball questions were fun too. For example, Siri’s reply to “I love you,” was, “I hope you don’t say that to your other mobile phones, [NAME].” We see that all reviews are full of praise and admiration for Siri and Apple promises that it “gets better” as it learns your voice (and this is the beta version). Note reviewers now seem to call Siri a “she” instead of an “it.”

The iPhone 4S will be available in 16, 32 and 64 GB memory options priced at 199$, 299$ and 399$ respectively, with a two year contract. It has garnered some glowing reviews and we think it’s safe to say it is a clear step up from the iPhone 4 and the best iPhone yet. But can it topple its immediate rivals? We will just have to wait and see…

EA Sports, the game developer that requires no introduction, recently came out with the Fifa Soccer 2012 for the iOS Devices.

Two versions of the app have been released, one targeting the iPad and the other for the iPhone and the iPod touch. The iPad version was supposedly meant to utilize the hardware capabilities of the device (which I guess you will not notice since EA didn’t really do much with them) while the other, less expensive, version had been optimized for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Despite the different builds, both games have similar features.

The game allows players to choose from 500+ international clubs from the top leagues and 32 real stadiums to play your matches at. You can play as your favourite player with the Play like a Superstar Mode or be the gaffer and scout for players and get busy in the transfer marker with the Manager Mode. The game has nice vibrant graphics and smooth and user friendly controls placed nicely on the screen for a comfortable playing experience. It also features realistic 360 player movement and awesome skill moves which make it even more fun.

The neat thing about the Fifa Soccer 12 iPad version is its support for the iPhone and the iPod Touch to connect as wireless controllers for the match being played on the iPad. It’s like playing the game on a console! It only supports two players though but it’s a novel feature and you won’t find it in any other soccer games out there for iOS devices, so at least pretend to be content.

For all those soccer fans who own an iOS device, this is a must buy game!

For iPhone and iPod Touch, the price tag is $4.99 Buy It

For iPad the price tag is $9.99 Buy It

Want to know the gender of your PC? (I know you are like wtf?). Try this little trick to find it out ^^

Open notepad and paste the following piece of text in the file and SAVE IT AS computerGender.vbs or whatever you want to but make sure the file format is .vbs

CreateObject("SAPI.SpVoice").Speak"I know how to dance"

After saving the file, open it. Your computer will say “I know how to dance”. If it’s a male voice, then your PC is a male else if it’s a female voice, then you know what your PC gender is!

GOOD THING is that you can change the gender of your PC. For that:
Go to Control Panel look for Speech Recognition select change text to speech settings and in voice selection, select any other options(if available) from the drop down box, Click Apply and Ok.

Have fun!

BlueStacks has released the alpha version of its App Player today, moving a step further in their quest for the integration of Android apps on Windows devices. It’s a free software that enables users to run Android apps on Windows PCs, tablets, netbooks and laptops, absolutely unmodified.

The early test version comes pre-loaded with 10 apps, with the ability to add up to 26 more. The player also allows you to wirelessly sync apps from an Android phone to your PC with BlueStacks’ free Cloud Connect app. Users install Cloud Connect on their Android device, and pick the apps that they want their PC to have.

But games such as Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja are prohibited. Those, as it turns out, are reserved for a premium version of the App Player which BlueStacks hopes to launch at a later date. The paid variant of the app will feature unlimited app installation along with access to games.

There is a “get apps” section in the alpha build of the app that currently lets users choose from 150 approved apps and send them to their desktop. So it’s basically an Android app store where the target device is a Windows PC, which is simply unprecedented.

For now the App Player supports only Windows PCs. The company is working on a Mac version but concedes that it may be a while before one is available.

Minecraft, the sandbox building game developed by Mojang, now has its very own version for Android. Previously exclusive only to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the Minecraft Pocket Edition is now available on all devices running the Google mobile OS. While the Xperia Play version was specially designed to take full advantage of the phone’s hardware and give users a similar feeling to playing the game on PC, the newest Minecraft Pocket edition has intuitive touch screen controls.

The only problem with the Minecraft Pocket Edition is its lack of functionality as compared to the PC version. Players are only allowed to build stuff, which means there are no tools, no crafting and the game doesn’t even have any enemies or animals (I know you want to kill the wolf so badly!). Apart from that there are no modes in this latest edition (Multiplayer, Survival), so the game might sound a bit boring but the portability is what you should be happy for.

The price tag is $6.71. A demo version of the game is also out on the android app market, so I will recommend you to play the demo version before buying the original as there have been complaints about the hardware compatibility of the game.

Demo

Buy It!

Check out the Minecraft Pocket Edition video on Xperia Play.

Acer has presented its first attempt on Intel’s new Ultrabook category with the Aspire S3 and with that, has claimed the honour of being the first to ship them to the US outside of Apple.

Ultrabooks are characterized by their ability to be concurrently powerful and lightweight, and the Aspire S3 accomplishes just that. The 0.51 inch thin notebook, with a magnesium alloy case, houses a 13.3-inch screen and weighs a feathery 2.98 pounds. And the graceful façade comes power-packed with a low-power Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM memory and a rare combination of both a 20GB SSD for speed and a 320GB rotating drive for space- all signs of a solid performer. Acer promises a fast 1.5-second wake from sleep time (6 seconds from deep sleep) and a further 2 seconds for Wi-Fi connectivity, all thanks to its Instant On and Instant Connect technologies. It also claims a 50 day standby time.

See how thin that is !?

The device starts at $899. Because of the lower price, some specs had to be sacrificed which include a lower 1366×768 screen resolution and a shorter six-hour battery life. Acer assured that less expensive systems with Core i3s, as well as faster Core i7 models, will also be available.

All in all the sleek and stylish Aspire S3 is a powerful device and a perfect portable machine and its low pricing makes it a very interesting opponent to Apple’s more expensive and slightly lighter 13-inch MacBook Air.

Where would we be without open-source software and the talented developers who ply their skill on them? Well we’ve got another treat from the open-source goodie bag with CVPCS, an Android dev, releasing a pre-alpha of VLC media player for Android devices. Alright so it’s not an official app of the best, most versatile, media player in the universe but it is the next best thing.

Although CVPCS isn’t providing any support for the app because it’s such an early build, he his making his VLC app available to download. Because there are so many Android devices out there, you cannot have a universal app for all of them. So CVPCS has created two versions of the app, NEON and NO-NEON, based on processor types.

To find out which category your processor belongs to, you’ll need a file manager to locate the file “/proc/cpuinfo”. Open that file and you’ll see something like this:

Processor : ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
processor : 0
BogoMIPS : 1597.74

Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3
CPU implementer : 0×41
CPU architecture : 7
CPU variant : 0×1
CPU part : 0xc09
CPU revision : 2

Hardware : mapphone_CDMA
Revision : 0000
Serial : 0000000000000000

Check the Features line for ‘neon’. If it’s there, then your device supports NEON extensions. If it’s not, then you’ll have to use the NO-NEON variant of VLC. Download VLC here and be sure to check out the full instructions.

Once again, this is a pre-release version so there will be bugs and missing features. Hopefully the developer will keep working on it and update all the required features and make this the best media player on Android.

Earlier this year, Mozilla pledged to release a new version of their open source web browser, Firefox, every six weeks. Eighteen weeks and three upgrades later, the promise is still intact with the latest version of the browser, Firefox 7, being unveiled last week.

11 bugs were patched, 10 of which were rated “critical”, the companies most serious threat rating. But the major focus with the new edition had been on its performance and memory management. The browser that has been infamous for its gluttonous use of system RAM has been updated with MemShrink, an internal Mozilla project which it claims will reduce memory usage by up to 20-30% which in some cases can rise to 50%.

“Firefox [7] manages memory more efficiently to deliver a nimble Web browsing experience,” Mozilla said at the launch. “Users will notice Firefox is faster at opening new tabs, clicking on menu items and buttons on websites.” It also said that the benefits will be more visible for Windows OS users and also in scenarios where users have opened numerous tabs and leave Firefox running for long spells.

Other fixes included a new hardware acceleration framework to speed up HTML5 rendering, and an opt-in tool called Telemetry that lets users send performance data to Mozilla so that it can improve future versions of the browser. Also patched Tuesday was Firefox’s implementation of WebGL, a 3-D rendering standard that both Firefox and Google’s Chrome comply with.

Another new feature is support for the W3C navigation timing API, which allows developers to test their page’s load speed. With this support the Web developer can remotely measure his site’s performance and optimize it for different user profiles.

We feel the new upgrades and fixes are very persuasive and will sway a lot of people into considering using Firefox 7. But for those who are still not satisfied, there’s another update due on Nov 8. Hopefully it will have what you are looking for.

Firefox 7 is available to download for Mac, Linux and Windows. People running the older version will be offered the upgrade through the browser’s own update mechanism.
